Southport Sharks Events Centre hosts the impressive Southport Sharks Australian Rules Football Club Hall of Fame, situated within the foyer.

Hall of Fame Inductees consist of founding members, talented footballers and coaches – all these dedicated people warrant a special mention.

Josh Baxter

An ex-Victorian key forward, Baxter was a reliable and hard-working forward who holds the record as the second highest goal kicker in NEAFL history.  He played 104 games during two stints at Southport between 2011 and 2018 and was a QAFL / NEAFL representative player. He is the first of our 2018 NEAFL Premiership Players

A Southport Sharks Junior and a prolific and determined on baller, Burge played 167 games from 2005-2016 and is a Playing Life Member of the Club.  He was a Premiership player in the 2006 and 2008 teams and was awarded the Doc Mackenzie Medal for Best and Fairest in 2012 and 2013 and Club Captain

A Surfers Paradise junior, Pope was a determined and reliable midfielder and dangerous small forward.  He played 126 games at Southport from 2005 – 2015 including the 2006 and 2008 Premierships. Pope won the Grogan Medal in 2012.

Peter was a very competitive Ruck and Key Forward from Tasmania and played 75 games for Southport between 1987-1991.  He was a regular State Representative player, playing five games for Queensland and played a key role in three Premierships in 1987,1989 and 1990.

Raines began playing his junior football at Palm Beach before switching to Southport Sharks.  He was drafted in 2003 by Richmond and played a total of 129 Games for Richmond, Brisbane and Gold Coast.  He represented Australia in two International Rules games and was both Runner Up in the AFL Rising Star Award and Richmond’s

A Surfers Paradise junior and talented youth basketball player, Jesse White came to Southport Sharks in 2005.  He was in the undefeated Queensland U18 National Champion team before being drafted in 2006 to Sydney Swans.  He played a total of 127 games for Sydney and Collingwood and was an AFL Rising Star nominee in 2009.

Played 318 games for Bears/Lions. Triple AFL Premiership player 2001, 2002 and 2003. Started senior career at Southport prior to being listed by Bears. Local Surfers Paradise junior who went on to show what ability combined with dedication and hard work can achieve. Along with Matty Kennedy a pioneer role model to Gold Coast up and coming juniors.

David Ashkar

Played 89 senior games and 105 for the club in total (including 1989 and 1990 premierships). Was a very quick Wingman/Forward between 1988 and 1994. A Queensland Rep player. Went on to establish a coaching career at Burleigh and Labrador as well as Assistant Coaching positions at Southport. He is the current State Under 18 Coach.

Played between 1995 - 2000 (110 games). Best & Fairest 1995.Premiership Captain 4 times. Grogan Medalist 2 times. Outstanding playing career with sharks after playing for Brisbane & Fitzroy in the AFL as well as a Sandover medalist in the WAFL. Inaugural Captain and team member of 25 years, 1983-2008.

Darren Carlson

Darren Carlson

Played 64 games for Southport as Wingman/Onballer including the premierships of 1985, 1987 and 1989. The first Gold Coast player to be elevated to the Brisbane Bears list out of the QAFL competition. Played 25 AFL games and went on to a distinguished SANFL career with West Adelaide before finishing his football at Southport. He represented Queensland on 10 occasions and is still actively involved in AFLQ state programs.

Renowned for his intercept play and his long kicks, Daniel was resilient and only missed one game through four seasons of football

Played 123 games. Played in 1998, 1999 and 2000 Premierships. Ray Hughson Medal 3 times for leading goal kicker. Freakish high flying forward, renowned for banana kick goals. “Rocket” Rod would kick goals and take marks that would demoralise opposition sides.

Playing Life member. Played 163 games as half forward and defender. Premiership player in 1992 ,1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Versatile utility who played mainly forward but could also play defence. A clever ball user who could kick goals when required. An untimely suspension in 1990 cost him his first premiership. Went down back in 2000 premiership and helped turn the game. Inaugural team member of 25 years, 1983-2008.

Played 106 games as a midfielder. Important part of 4 flags from 1997 - 2000. Tough as teak, midfielder who had a ‘never say die’ attitude. Run all day and always played well in finals. In and under ball magnet who could kick a goal. Wally Fankhauser award recipient in 2001 for his straight out approach.

Started his football career in the Under 14 side at Reservoir. Continued to Under 18's at Epping where he commenced a senior career in 1959. Bob was a foundation player for Southport in 1961 and finished in 1966. An Onballer/Rover with great skill and tenacity. A regular Gold Coast Rep player. Won Best and Fairest in 1963 and equal Best and Fairest in 1965 alongside D. Napper and K. Rodger.

First Captain/Coach of the Southport Magpies. Heavily involved in Gold Coast representative sides that pioneered the development of Gold Coast Football. Played Centreman/Rover. Renowned for his ability to accurately deliver the ball with either foot. Had a long term association with the club and was active in the early junior development programs

Came to Southport after playing at Palm Beach and Morningside. As a tall Defender or tall Forward he was a tough, uncompromising opponent. He was a regular Queensland Rep choice and played 15 state games. A dual premiership player in 1987 and 1990. After knee injuries forced him into retirement he continued his football involvement as a sports trainer.

Came to Southport from Norwood. Played 93 games as Full Forward and was a 100 goals a season player. Won the Ray Hughson medal on occasions and was Best and Fairest winner in 2007. Triple premiership player in 2005, 2006 and 2008. A two time Sate Rep player.

Steve McLuckie

Played 72 games for Southport between 1991 and 2000. Listed by Brisbane Bears and played 20 AFL games. Went on to a successful SANFL career at West Adelaide. Returned to Southport to complete his career with dual premiership wins in 1999 and 2000. He represented Queensland on three occasions including at State of Origin level. Still actively involved in promoting AFL within the school system and is current Principal of Southport State High School. Joe Grant (best on ground in Grand Final) medalist 2000 Sharks Premiership for kicking 4 goals straight from the wing.

(2008-2013) 114 senior games 2008 premiership player He was QLD State Representative in 2009 and received the Wally Fankhauser Award in 2008, Best and Fairest Runner up in 2009 and Best in Finals 2009 A Power Backman who got the big jobs down back on a regular basis. He was also thrown in at centre bounces and forward when coaches were looking for a physical presence/impact.

Came to the club at the end of a successful VFA career at Williamstown. A dominant Forward and Goal Kicker. Went on to coach the club in 1964-65 and was active in Gold Coast Rep Football. Also the dominant driving force behind the development of Gold Coast Basketball from grass roots to national license holder.

An inaugural player and the club's first Best and Fairest winner. A regular rep player as a Rover. His family were heavily involved as patrons of the club and had a long association. Went on to win dual Best and Fairest awards in 1961-1962.

Came to the club in the early 1970's from Victorian Country Football. He was a dominant Rover. Received dual Best and Fairest awards in 1970 and 1972. Renowned for his courageous attack on the football.

Nick Riewoldt

Nick Riewoldt

Premiership player at Southport in 2000 who became first Queenslander to be number one draft pick. Has currently played 182 games for St Kilda, Club Captain and 5 times Best & Fairest. The Rolls Royce of QLD Football who is the one and only number one draft pick to date out of QLD. Along with Clint Watts helped turn the 2000 Southport premiership with 3 goals after half time.

Played in the 1960's and early 1970's. A very competitive Defender/Fullback. Best and Fairest winner in 1965. Continued his association with the club after retiring with injuries. Coached the Colts and was an active committee member during the 1970's.

Played between 1975 - 1981 (120 games). Best & Fairest 1979. Had a distinguished career at Geelong in the then VFL. A super talented big man who was a magnificent mark. A man mountain on the ground rarely outmarked. 1980 player and premiership coach.

Former Geelong Under 19 captain who made a big impact during his career at Southport. A tough, versatile player who could play on ball or key position. He played 58 games between 1987-1989 including the 1987 and 1989 premierships. He represented Queensland on two occasions. He was a Joe Grant medalist in the 1989 grand final.

Played between 1978 - 1986 (143 games). Premiership Player 1979, 1980 and 1983. Regular State Representative. Arguably one of the fittest guys every season who got the big jobs week in week out. Played above his size a great mark and team man. Inaugural team member of 25 years, 1983-2008.

Played 218 games for Sharks. Regular State player and played in Premierships in 1992, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Tenacious midfielder, with a strong team ethic. Nicknamed “Shakey” for obvious reasons loved the big games and always played well in finals. Consummate centreman/midfielder. Player Life Member. 150 games/10 years service. Inaugural team member of 25 years, 1983-2008.

Premiership player in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006 and 2008. Prodigious left foot kick who was a big occasion player. Player Life member 150 games/10 year service. Inaugural team member of 25 years, 1983-2008.

Won the Grogan Medal and club Best and Fairest in 2010. Played in the 1999 premiership as a 17 year old. Had a successful career with the Eagles and North Adelaide in the SANFL between 2000 and 2005. Returned to Southport in 2006 and added two more premierships in 2006 and 2008. Has played over 120 senior games in total.
